Pub uses gravestones as flooring

A Dublin landlord has been criticised after installing gravestones on the floor of his pub.

Customer Marguerite Sinnot spotted an altar carving behind the bar and then noticed she and her husband were standing on gravestones clearly inscribed with names and dates.

When she later phoned the bar to complain, she was told not to worry because the gravestones were from Lancashire.

Mrs Sinnot told the Belfast Evening Telegraph: "I really don't care where they're from, I just don't think it's an appropriate way to treat Christian pieces of art."

Pub owner Paddy Murtagh said he bought the artefacts from an antiques dealer in England. He admitted the gravestones were "a bit weird" but denied they were offensive.

"I decided to kit out this pub with them because they were fashionable at the time. It's in keeping with the building - it was a morgue," he said.
